Ramparts Field, TL 789 717, 2.30 pm, sunny with threatening clouds
What we found: remnants of a survival blanket in the pit; blackberries, ragwort, scarlet pimpernel, soil, leaves for drawing; an encroaching storm.
What we thought about: Woodland Communication Day; David Lonsdale’s talk about tree pests and colonising species, what’s a friend and what’s a foe? Who’s perspective are we judging from?; Dr Helen Read from ‘The Ancient Tree Forum’, why are these trees important to us and who are their advocates?; should we investigate the world of lichen?
